A famine has wiped out all means of survival for the local Irish people. Four families have risen up from the devastation, but in the process of doing so have themselves become focal points for others who are hungry and poor, wishing to leave the country before death overtakes them. Each family has entrusted their eldest son to wander the vast lands to loot and steal what he can to build his family's fortune - providing a means for his family to immigrate to America. At the same time he is charged with protecting their haven from looting by other families, ensuring that the door to the haven is dead bolted at all times and defeating approaching invaders. He is a brave young man willing to fight off anyone who threatens the longevity of his family. Unfortunately, gambling is in his blood and he is in the habit of carelessly placing wagers to increase his chances of easy money, but only fate can deliver upon his dreams.
