This game is played on a 5x5 square board, set up with all the pieces on the board.

The pieces have the following movement:

  • MUSKETEER - A musketeer moves to an adjacent (just orthogonal) cell occupied by a soldier (capturing it).
  • SOLDIER - A soldier moves to an adjacent (just orthogonal) empty cell.

On the first turn the musketeer side moves. Then, turns alternate. The musketeers win if they cannot make a valid move. The soldiers win if the Three Musketeers are on the same row or column.

This game was featured in Sid sackson's excellent book A Gamut of Games.

A Zillions-of-Games ZRF file is available for this game at ftp://ftp.zillionsofgames.com/games/3musk.zip.
